I would like to know when the repeats will be coming to an end as I am fed up seeing teams from past episodes, such as the handlebars. When will new episodes be shown.
In the programme broadcast tonight one of the Eggheads was asked "What is a Shadoof?" If I heard correctly she said a well. As I had always thought it was a piece of equipment used by the Egyptians for raising water from irrigation channels I checked in my dictionary (Concise Oxford)where it is described as "a pole with a bucket and counterpoise used esp. in Egypt for raising water." The Macmillan Dictionary says it is "a device used in Egypt and adjacent regions since ancient times, consisting of a long pole on a pivot with a bucket on one end and a weight on the other, used for lifting buckets of water from a stream in an irrigation ditch". I remember, years ago seeing a picture of a hadoof being used for this purpose which is nothing to do with a well. I think the answer given by the Egghead was incorrect and the beaten team should be given another chance at tackling the Eggheads.
I enjoy watching Eggheads but I also find it very biased in giving the Eggheads easier questions.Even Dermot Murnaghan gets embarrassed by the obvious and tries to justify it by saying thats the way the questions come if you choose first or second. Rubbish!! The question cards are stacked in front of him 1 for Contestant 1 for egghead. The egghead team are quite intelligent and dont need to have deliberate easy questions given to them.
This ^programme is atrocious and made worse by the repetitive script of its chairman,his childish enthusiasm,the pathetic level of the ?s and the multi choice format.If only he would refrain from the insulting suggestion that candidates withdraw in order not to confer.If they are cheats don t invite them.

I agree with other comments that the repeats (which are indicated by CJ's hairstyle)are very irritating when they suddenly change in what seems to be the middle of another series.
Is it possible to see the show when over £45,000 pounds was won? I missed this one.
Why can't the programme be shown at another timeslot or (like Countdown) repeated at a later time.
How come the Eggheads always seem to get the easier of the two questions ?

I and all my family won't miss Eggheads but we are a bit fed up with all the repeats. I can't be bothered to watch lately because of this. Chris and Kevin are our favourites. I hate it when Chris loses.

i enjoy this quiz, but to make it fairer for the contestants to win more than they do., they always seem to get the third question wrong but the eggheads never do.the questions should be put into 2 individual envelopes,marked 1 and two and then they could choos either envelope. instead of the questions been read from a card, it always the eggheads who get the easist questions. and cj, what a patronising person he is.

I love this programme and all of the Egghead team. When are we going to see a new series, not repeats. Makes such a change from seeing programmes that are all about winning huge sums of money.
we find cj and daphne very ignorant with a Im cleverer than you attitude to know the answer if its wrong just look at thier faces and watch them smirk
Love Eggheads - even the repeats - one annoying thing is Daphne's exagerated expressions when she wants to show us all that she knows the answer. We know she is very clever so she does not need to show off like this.
My family and I always watch 'The Eggheads'. Its great to have a new series on though it should be in a more popular shot, my fave is Kevin cos hes so clever, modest and sweet! Daphne is nice too.
I watch eggheads quite reguarly and wonder sometimes why the eggheads seem to get a very easy Q when their backs are up against the wall reading Qs of a card seems to leave a Q in my mind it would be better if we could see the Qs eg card 1 and card 2 so we know that the Qs are the ones that they are to answer

I really like watching eggheads BUT please can Dermot have a new script - his comments are so predictable!
i have noticed when eggheads go 2nd they always go for the middle choice when not sure. which is the correct answer more times than not is this just a coicidence or have i just got it wrong
Watching the programme on the 14/2/06, the questions for the Challengers seemed far more difficult especially on the Arts section where 2 questions were demanded on childrens books towards the Challenger. Why is there not a second person behind Dermot? He also repeats his questions to the Eggheads. Does he really distribute the questions fairly? I think not.
I really enjoy watching eggheads but could you stop CJ making stupid faces when the contestants get their question wrong - it is really irritating - either that or find someone who is just as clever as he is and replace him - his facial expressions are condescending and unpleasant!
How ridiculous is the notion that the questions fired at the Eggheads are somehow easier than what their opponents are saddled with. They're only 'easier' because they happen to know the answers!
Refering to what paul said after my comments i say again what have they got hide by not letting us the viewers see the Qs on the card and then we would know that they are the Qs that each team are supposed to get COME ON WHATS WRONG WITH THAT unlessthey have something to hide

Tonight's show was a disgrace in the way it ended. The answer from the challengers "Serpico" should have been enough - was the BBC scared that the eggheads are starting to get beaten too regularly? CJ's aggessive facial expression at the end was a disgrace. The categories that 'came up' were very telling apart from Sport - Politics; Entertainment; Arts & Books??? Funny that the challengers were teachers of history, science and geography!!!!
I am living in the Netherlands.When I have time I am always watching Eggheads.I like the show.I hope there are coming new episodes.I like the whole team but Chris is my favourite.He has the same passion as we have:Trains and steam-engines.
I hope the show will continue in the future.
Isn't it about time that the smallest amount to win on Egg Heads should be £5000 (at least). When the Egg Heads lose, it's really disappointing for the next challengers to play for a measly £1000 between 5! Also, please change the record Dermot - your script is boring, infantile - and biased! Please, please stop CJ making infuriating facial expressions - or replace him! We like the show but it's time it grew up!

Yes,I agree that CJ makes often a look of disapproval.Of course he knows a lot but he is a little bit pedant.He is a person that you like or dislike.But that is all in the game en those people are making the game.
Please stop CJ and Daphne from acting in such a puerile manner when the opposing team get it wrong! Someone I know was on a quiz show with Daphne and she demands a separate dressing room and is 'not a nice woman'.CJ has the facial expressions of a 2 year old-GROW UP!!
Does Daphne realise how ridiculous she looks when every single question that is asked she shakes or nods her head to make sure that everyone is aware that she apparently knows the answer, and on the occasions that it isnt correct tries her best to hide behind the other eggheads, it is the sort of thing i watch children do at my daughters infant school.
I always watch Eggheads but was a bit bewildered to find that I was suddenly watching the current series instead of repeats. CJ with his peculiar poser expressions drives me mad, particularly when he thinks someone like an 'old boy' is not answering correctly. My husband and I watch the series as often as we can and obviously love it. We would like to say that one thing that really annoys us is that when the challengers answer a question and the camera goes to the egg heads you can usually tell if the answer is right or wrong by the expressions on their faces, the worst person is CJ. Is it my imagination or are C.J. and Judith more frequently defeated than the others? What do their respective win/loss ratios look like ? I think Kevin has the best all-around knowledge but may be wrong. Chris seems to me to be the one you'd want to go to the pub with, but who can accurately judge on what people are like from a T.V., just my guesswork.

Eggheads is a wonderful programme I try not to miss an episode that includes repeats. I love the individual members of the team they are all such nice people, I am sorry if anyone loses a round but especailly CJ as he cannot help show his disappointment. Lovely team and great game. Yesterday,I have noticed CJ`s face.He lost his game.And than he is just a little child.He was the whole time,during the show,sulky.
Is it just me or does Kevin seem the "leader" of the team by default? Whenever a question is discussed they all look to him. Probably because he is the most intelligent. Also thought it was funny a while back when Daphne celebrated when I think Judith (could have been CJ or Chris)got a question right and Kevin put his hand up and shook his head as if to say "Don't do that Daphne". She quickly stopped and looked a bit sheepish. Anyone else remember this?
CJ is a child, his facial expressions are so purile and acts like such a know all. yest I think he loses more than his colleagues. He's not very pleasant with his team mates is there tension there. Chris is king.
Several postings have queried,why repeats of The Eggheads are being shown on BBC2.This may be due to the fact that Dermot Murnaghan has already left his job with the BBC,to join Sky News and I suspect that although the quiz is produced by an outside company (12 Yard Productions)Sky would normally block Dermot appearing on BBC. No doubt a replacement for Dermot will be appointed.so those posters who moan about his presenting style should be pleased
In the programme shown today regarding a question as to what is an Akita........ Judith on the Egghead panel went into great detail on the look and coat type of a Japanese Akita, fluffy round the face, hairless in parts! The description given made me think that she was thinking of a Chinese crested? Anyway her expert
description was so ridiculous, I had a really good laugh because her comments which were not asked for showed me that she did not have a clue about what she was saying. I did so admire the eggheads brains, however I now question other expert information that they impart when other fail to get a question correct.
I gave the Egg Heads quiz show another chance tonight, after being put off a while back by the facial arrogant expressions and attitude of superiority shown by Egg Head team, again I have been put off once again, I know it's a quiz and is for fun, but the team in my opinion show a complete contempt to the other contestants who do not get paid for spending their working day swatting up of every bit of useless information, show some humility and genuine respect for those who come on the show, the smugness of the team when they win leaves something to be desired and in my opinion is not sportsman like or for that matter entertaining, Egg Heads! loosen up and get a life or get a real job!
I wrote earlier:I like the show very much.But..I have watched the quizz these week every evening and I have to say that the most of you you are right in your opinion.The attitude of the Egg-heads is not social at all.They were annoying(except Chris).
My opinion is:
Search for a new Egg-Headteam.Change the team.
I think there are more Bright Brains in England than those 4.And than it will become more interresting for the many,many viewers.Not only in Great-Britain but also in The Netherlands.I know there are many viewers in The Netherlands and I am one of them and I like the concept of the show very much.
Why do the egg heads get asked easier questions than the contestants? This is not only my view but the views of my family and friends. Dermot should have two clear question piles in front of him and when he asks if you would like to go 1st or 2nd pick the questions up from the appropriate pile (pile 1 or pile 2)
Cj is such a snob and pulls many different faces i cant stand him in fact i cant stand any of them they seem to think they are better than anybody else and its got to a stage i can hardly bare to watch them now put something worth while on in its place
Terrible show and is very boring after watching it 2 or 3 times. Easy questions which the newcomers find so challenging to beat the group of the old farts or should i say,the eggheads. Deserves to be put in the bin and burnt.
I should like to bring to your attention mistakes made by 2 members of the eggheads team in recent weeks. Firstly, CJ DeMooi declared that a piece of music 'pictures from an exhibition' was the theme tune to the tv show johnathan creek when in fact the theme tune is danse macabre by Saint Saens. Secondly Chris Hughes decalared Arthur Rackham to be a 19th Century illustrator when in fact Arthur Rackham was illustrating in the 20th Century. I'm sure im not alone in finding the face pulling, grimacing and looks of derisive horror on CJ De Mooi's face when challengers get a question wrong rude in the extreme and I should like to see him face a university challenge team, let's face it, the guy isn't educated, he just spends all his time cramming facts into his head, couldn't we all do that if we had all day to waste?!
I totally agree with Mrs.Wiliams.The behaviour of CJ De Mooi is not always social.Sometimes it is a childish behaviour and haughty.
And I think it is an insult to the challenge team.

We all love watching eggheads and have done from day one! But i feel compeled to say that CJ is very rude to the opposing team by pulling stupid smirks.The company that make this show should not keep showing this. Its very patronising to the opposing team.

I am in complete agreement with the majority view of Daphne and CJ very poor attitude to the contestants. Perhaps I misheard, but the reply to who designed the Trellick Tower Judith seemed to say she thought it was Erno, Dermot said, do you mean Erno Goldfinger? As I say I may have misheard but it does seem to the Grandchildren and myself, that the Eggheads are given a very easy ride by Dermot.
Oh! stop moaning. The "pompous" CJ, the "smug" Daphne (when she's with her mates), the "hilarious" Chris, the "bore" Kevin and "Lady" Judith. What a team! The show wouldn't be worth watching if they were all polite. That's the programme's appeal.

Get off your bikes you poker faced British snobs, to be on eggheads you obviously think you have the intelligence to beat them. CJ is wonderful, I would stop watching the show if he left, as for Daphne.. sweet old lady! They all different individuals in their own right. I feel sorry for Kevin half the time because he's too good to take on so he has to wait for the General Knowledge. Its nice to be nice! Learn to smile British Public, imagine them all sitting there like Kevin? A little bit of Simon Cowell here and there is Grand.
I am amazed at the comments by viwers about CJ. The guy is a character, not a boring fart. Sometimes he is obnoxious but surely that is what we like about tv, not being bored to death by your average Joe 'Boring git', like unfortunately many viewers are. Carry on mate, be yourself, if they don't like it, then watch some other grey, boring, farty programme.
I am new to this site, so forgive any repetition! Quiz success is based on an efficient memory recall system, and has little to do with actual intelligence, as the existence of idiots savants and 'Mr Memory' types shows. This is presumably why CJ and Daphne fail to realise that their antics make them look like unpleasant children. The face-pulling when others are wrong but surprised fluffing when they are wrong is hypocrisy of the first order. High intelligence and a good memory are gifts, and should be offered with humility and humour, as Kevin obviously does, and Chris and Judith to a lesser extent. Then again, we all love to hate someone, don't we? I do think some of the challengers are pretty poor: is there any form of audition? And will Dermot please stop making jokes about Judith and the Royals? So tedious!
Fromw where did the team Tapheads come?
I heard the name Welshwater thinking that this was town like Welshpool in Shropshire but when I put this name into the Goodle search engine all I got was the company supplying water, that is Welsh Water.
The team sounded like they came from South Wales but somewhere near to Newport or Monmouth, or outside the valleys area - eg Carleon

loved the episode when daphne thought CJ had given the wrong answer and as usual she buried her head in her hands and did all she could to show people she was correct. the look on her face was priceless when dermot said CJ was correct. sad though even this has not stopped her bighead performances.
I enjoy Eggheads, but CJ, and Daphne to a lesser degree are a bit pompous. I think CJ knows more about sport, and football in particular than he makes out. It must be beneath his dignity to show his knowledge so he pretends to be guessing. Yes, it is painful to watch their facial expressions and it's so repetitive. An occasional response to a complete howler I could understand. Judith, Kevin and Chris are always polite.
I am sure I've seen the eggheads in other TV programmes.Chris as the fat controller in Thomas the tank engine.CJ(Conceited Jerk)as Uriah Heep in David Copperfield.Judith as Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds.Daphne as Evil Edna in Will o the wisp and is Kevin really a Time Lord in his spare moments?
Isn't it possible to change Dermot's script? Does he have to say every time eg 'Are your 2 brains better than the Eggheads' 4?' 'They are playing for something money can't buy......' etc etc
dermot's script is the same every show. He only needs to put in contestants names each night. Otherwise, we ight as well have a robot??

I love the show. everyday after work I look forward for this quality time. Ofcourse Kevin is the most knowledgable, Chris is deceptive but has a huge store of knowledge. Still Egg heads will not be eggheads without daphne and you should not be attacking C.J. like that. Have you noticed how much he has improved in knowledge? He is like the well loved kid of the family!Please can some one help Judith with her dressing? She has absolutely no clue. She is however doing much better these days. dermot should leave her alone. Anyway Dermot is much better as newscaster than a presenter.
I am sure most people who actually watch eggheads watch it because the D***heads annoy them so much. I do anyway. From CJ's eye fluttering and drawn out breath when he knows an answer to daphnes robotic voice and black eyeballs (Is she the reincarnation of Hambel from Playschool? A bit like Chucky but worse.

As for Judith,she is unquestionably the most elegant on the team and the only one in that motley crew,I would be pleased to see as a guest at a dinner party.At least she has a sense of humour!

Yes, Mr X - please let us all in on what you know. Personally I think new question categories are needed - it seems it's always Judith for science or sport, Chris for entertainment & CJ for arts & books. Kevin & Daphne are the two chosen the least number of times, I think.
Right there are new categories - Entertainment is now Music and TV & Films.
Dermot has been replaced by Jeremy Vine a nicer guy you could not meet. and he didn't come out with any of the old cliches!!
The reason the same eggheads are chosen is that they are weak in certain subjects this was proved by CJ's response to us picking him for history and Kevins for food & drink.
As for the comments regarding there attitudes etc i can only say that they wre all polite friendly people Chris is slightly shy, Judith was friendly but slightly aloof,Kevin chatted for ages and as for Daphnie and CJ they are like a double act! NOT at all as shown on tv, our appearence took 2 hours to film so it was obvious that they changed when the cameras were rolling and what we see is highly edited. Oh yes one final fact the ggheads have won over 460 games and lost 25 or so. how to beat them? study whos good at what,pick a balanced team, agree a strategy and stick to it. You also need a lot of luck and the "right" questions. Did we win - i'm not able to say but if asked will let you know when we are due on air.
Hello from Australia, My wife and i stumbled across Eggheads recently and now watch it nightly. I believe some of your comments re Daphne are a bit harsh. I discovered her website and sent her a brief email to let her know she has viewers from downunder and she replied with a lengthy message re the program and details of how she became an Egghead and how fortunate she feels to be a part of it all. She strikes me as a genuine and sincere person.Regards

I'm astonished to find a number of posters agreeing with the impression that I've had -- of an uneven playing field when it comes to questions.
I found the following on another forum:
"It would be better if producers would ditch their agenda of only recruiting challengers who 'aren't quite good enough,' and wheel out some of the elite teams that they reject at the auditions for being too nifty. Aficionados of other quizzing sites will testify to how the really decent quizzers get rejected, in order to maintain the air of invincibility of the so-called Eggheads."
"Couldn't agree more. A team I play in has auditoined twice, beaten the teams we were up against in the auditions twice, yet we've been rejected and the teams we beat both got on. I'm sure the fact that we've all got experience of being on TV quizzes before has got nothing to do with it!"

while i do not want to get into an argument i find your post a little odd. Are you saying that every team that gets through is picked because they don't stand a chance?.~did you ask why you were rejected? if so what reason was given?, beating the teams you audition with is only a part of the process along with the chemistry and balance of the team etc. We got 2 questions wrong out of the 50 we answered in our audition but got through. I belive that previous TV apperances can count against you.
Can someone please have a word with Daphne and CJ for their ridiculous behaviour on eggheads, perhaps Kevin, Judith or Chris could give them a few lessons on how to behave, I love the programme but their constant sniggers, facial expressions when someone gets the question wrong spoils which is a very good programme. Judith, Kevin and Chris realy professionals but these two are, not perhaps it would be better to put the infantile CJ between Judith and Kevin who unlike Daphne might teach him how to behave, not good role models at all

Isn't CJ's arrogance part of the appeal of the show? When someone beats him it's even better than when Kevin (Mr Magnanamous) loses.
Is it just me or has anybody else noticed that the eggheads (particulary CJ and Daphne) seem to leave Judith out a little.
She's sat on that far end and in the final round you hardly ever see any of them confer with Judith.
Or is it just me?
Yes Michelle I agree with your last comment - I have noticed that Judith's opinion is rarely sought. Although she was frozen out of the final round yesterday, she knew the answer to the question that defeated the rest of the Eggheads! Perhaps in future they will confer with her more often!!
I also agree wholeheartedly with earlier comments re: CJ's arrogance and face-pulling at other contestants mistakes. On the other hand, when he gets a question wrong he makes out that it requires knowledge of some obscure fact. What hypocrisy!
In addition to the other changes called for, I think it would be a good idea to have a time limit for answering questions (say 10 seconds and then 15 seconds for non-multiple choice questions). I notice that Dermot never hurries the Eggheads when they find a question difficult. Also, it would eliminate those long-winded answers the Eggheads give just to show off!!!

As a contestant on the show i can tell you that you are given 2 minutes to answer a question, this is edited out of the broadcast programme. The show runs on tv for 27 minutes or so our show took about 2 hours to record and it will be intresting to see what is cut out ( thers s briilant comment that i hope stays in). As for comments regarding the behaviour of the eggheads see mt previous posts - its an act - its remarkable to see the change i all of them when the cameras "start to roll" i cant say to much but once our show is aired (October 8) i will post more, believe me i have met a lot of tv people and what you see on the screen is different in most cases.And what ever they are like at least its beeter than that new Quix thats on before it where did they find the presenter its so lifeless!
The length of time permitted to the Eggheads on the Irish Tinker question today was shocking. At the very next question, the two challengers were being pushed for an answer althought not half the time on the allowed on the Egghead question - a disgrace!!!
I was very shocked to hear Daphne use a blaphemous expletive in last Wednesday's show. Why was this not edited out? Or has this type of language become the norm? Daphne has already rendered herself my least favourite Egghead through her arrogant attitude and rudeness to CJ. This latest incident just sends her plummeting down in the popularity stakes!
I think Eggheads is great but how does CJ`s hair style change in some episodes although they seem to be on consecutive days for example yesterday 8th Sept CJ had long hair when today sept 9th he had his hair cut short.
CJ is my favourite team member and adds humour and fun to a sometimes rather dry show. However I am fascinated by the fact that his hair has grown incredibly long and become incredibly short overnight during the current run. I am assuming there must have been a long break between episodes!!
Wow! just watched tonights episode 10th Sept and CJ`s hair has gone long again and in a pony tail overnight!!!!. Am I becoming obsessed with how this happens? maybe I will just accept it and concentrate on the programme.
We love Eggheads but like a lot of other people CJ and Daphne are driving us mad with their face pulling, CJ is for ever fluttering his eyes and Daphne I once heard say "thnk god" when they needed the answer to win, they spoil the show with their arrogant comments and mannerisms. Judith is the best although not included as much and she has a sense of humour as well as being intelligent. Kevin looks bored sometimes as if the questions are to easy and Chris is ok. Please Please can we not swap CJ and Daphne?
The CJ Hair issue - how can he go from pony tail to short hair to pony tail in 3 episodes? Does this smack of yet another deception by the BBC? The programmes clearly are not consecutive as Judith and Daphne's hair changes too.

The current programmes are a repeat series, as they are filmed in 2 week blocks it may explain why the hair changes!. Don't know why we were asked ot give our ages it struck me as odd but i think it's become a standard thing to do.

I agree with alot of the comments below. CJ and Daphne drive me mad with their face pulling. None of the other three pull faces when CJ and Daphne get a question wrong. Its very rude and they should show some manners.
On the show of 15th september 2008 one of the opponents team may have been a man named Neil Granger playing that night. I may be mistaken on mishearing his name whilst eating my tea but is a programme which I watch every night. I was astonished when I heard this as my long lost nephew is Neil Granger who lives in Edinburgh. I have been living in England for half my life and not seen him since he was about one born in Glasgow when I last saw him. Can you please settle my mind one way or other and would be grateful. There was a question about a year ago that the multiple choice was top, middle, bottom Que CJ..."well i don't really know this...hmmm, well i'm rather inclined to bottom" haha, what a belter! Oh and why don't they put the questions on the screen, When i'm eating and watching the show and people are talking i always miss the questions. Sort it out Dermot.

Have watched Eggheads from its beginning, love it and have hardly missed a show. But had to turn it off this week as I agree entirely with Steve's comments, could not stand Jeremy Vine's voice. If impossible to have Dermot then find someone else as you will lose viewers.

Whoops made a mistake we are on tonight Wednesday 8th Not Tuesday as posted below. We Watched the Lobster Men recording there show while waiting to record ours. Good contestants but what a question to give any one let alone an egghead "what breed of animal is a shetland" evan the eggheads where amused/embaressed by that!.
I agree with Chris' comment yesterday, I cannot bear Jeremy Vine's voice either. What happened to Dermot? Eggheads is not the same without him.
Why Jeremy Vine? If Dermot is doing something else, there must be dozens of people more suitable than Jeremy Vine, who sometimes sounds like a robot, other time affectation is what comes across. Dermot has humour and wit - it was a pleasure to listen to him!
I have to agree with recent comments about Jeremy Vine's voice - irritating to say the very least!!. I hope that Dermot is returning to the show before too long.
Also irritating is Daphne's performance - always so smug and wanting everyone to know that SHE knows the answer. Does she not realise that this makes her probably the most disliked of the team ? She should take Judith as an example, lovely lady.

I think the show has improved immeasurably under Jeremy Vine. Murnaghan is boring, has no small talk, no sense of humour, no quick repartee. All the false dithering over saying whether the answer is correct or not, all the ribbing of the beautiful and civilised Judith, all the repeated phrases - they all bore me rigid. The show lacked verve. Vine has now introduced it
Please bring back Dermot. Jeremy Vine just doesn't have the same charm with the eggheads or contestants.

I have watched eggheads for seems like eternity but i am getting very mad at daphne and cj they always showoff if they know the answer especially daphne she lets the other team know if they got it wrong with her facial expressions before the answer is revealed .As for CJ he is the last one to criticise anyone he is the weakest link .Sort them out please i do love the show
i went onto this site to complain about c.j. attitude and found pages of complaints but very few positive comments. I have stopped watching eggheads now because of c.j. s smirking and posturing. he needs to grow up and look at his face in the mirroe UGH!
Having worked in production on the earlier editions, I can confirm the following:
1. Chris really does have a chip on his shoulder about his lack of education and humble roots. I remember when the eggheads lost to the University Challenge team: Chris was livid for days!
2. CJ is as pompous as he appears. When the Eggheads had to come up with their opening spiel, as a wind up, we suggested CJ mention that he had come 246 (or whatever) in the World Quiz Championship. He wasn't amused! He did beat me at chess though :-)
3. Judith is a sweetie and treats it all as a game.
As Dermot was always on auto-pilot, I suggest that the presenter should be the robot quiz master, Michael 6, off the Peter Serafinovich Show.

As a New Zealand viewer, we get the shows sometime later on UK TV. A recent programm had Dermott mis-pronouncing a NZ place so badly that I had trouble recognising it, and the contestant no chance at all. Someone should be researching questions better and giving the quizmaster guidance as to correct pronunciation.Still an excellent show though.
I was 8 weeks in de States.So,I did`nt noticed that Dermott no longer presented the Quiz.
That is a pity.I liked Dermot very much.And I agree that the voice of Jeremy Vine is irritating.I`ll hope that Dermot will return than in mine opinion is the quiz without Dermot not the same quiz anymore.

I can only asume that Jeremy Vine has an extremely good agent - he has neither the persona nor the voice for either radio or television.
Daphne and CJ were the most irritating members of the Eggheads Quiz Show - they now have a rival, all three are thoroughly dislikeable.
Viewers are being steadily lost since this new series started, the producers should think long and hard before they sign Jeremy Vine again and the two team members mentioned should take note of the many negative comments made against them.

Have watched 'Are You An Egghead?' a few times now.Is it me, or are the questions harder than in the normal 'Egghead' show?
Also, some of the contestants appear to be just so smug and irritating. They make me want to throw something at the TV screen!
I love the show but it does not mean i love the eggheads Daphne and cj (which isn't his real name)are pitiable c j banging his head on the desk every time Judith gets one wrong, it's as if he knows everything and daphne is very irritating when she is out and sitting at the back and nodding her head and putting her thumbs up when an egghead is right and also when she says sorry to the team when she's wrong.The other three are brilliant
I agree that Daphne and CJ are annoying. Every time Daphne titters I want to hide behind the couch.CJ's constant hairdo's are a pain in the neck as well as the supercilious stare. There is absolutely no doubt that the team get the easier questions, in fact I doubt if it matters which set of questions the visitors take, I would bet the card is marked "team" and "challengers". I'm starting to get bored with it now.

The last time the Eggheads lost she & Judith were the only two of them in the final. On one of the questions she & Judith disagreed about the answer so Judith said she bowed before Daphne's 'superior knowledge' - result was Daphne's answer was wrong & Judith's correct.
Last night in 'Are You An Egghead' Daphne was asked for an answer 'Definately Turkey, yes, definately Turkey' - wrong !!
Jeremy Vine has a sort of Loyd Grossman drawl, which makes me want to grind my teeth. I think a "Down with Daphne" club may be a good idea (and she could take CJ with her..)
There is of course a difference between actual intelligence and the ability of memory recall. I am sure all the eggheads are intelligent, but I would like to ask if any of them (especially Kevin) if they have ever used such memory recall methods as published by Harry Lorayne. Using Harry Lorayne's method, you can remember anything.
On one show, I heard one of the eggheads (I won't say which one) say that they had never heard of Nicola Tesla. I nearly collapsed with disbelief, since Tesla was one of the most brilliant men on this planet, and the most prolific inventor of all time. Almost as bad as never heard of Albert Einstein.
Has anyone noticed how Daphne puts her head in her hands when she thinks one of her team has answered wrongly? - then when the question is called correct, starts smiling and clapping and nodding? Very annoying.

Jeremy Vine appears to leave his brain & judgement at home as he trots out his childish humour and repeats the tiresome daily script.I can not believe that this journalist can dumb himself down to this level.The script also includes the insulting "Take your places to avoid conferring";why not say "Cheats" outright.Let alone "Who will beat you"after the Eggheads have onl 2 3 4 victories behind them.The man is a FOOL.
I watch eggheads and think that if everyone was like Kevin nobody would win and the show would be boring. The fact that CJ is so creepy, Daphne so old doll, Judith so snobby and Chris so working class makes the show worth watching. Barry has a leer which will gets on everybody's nerves very soon
WHERE HAS CJ GONE ? I watched eggheads tonight knowing there was a new one and expected one of the others to have left but never expected it to be cj for some reason. At the start of the show nothing was mentioned at all about cj or why he had gone, its like he never existed !He is an annoying get but also was quite funny and i will miss him.
Where has C.J. gone? Has he been axed or made the right decision to leave - maybe gone back modelling!

This evening's show - CJ anticipated that a mere mortal on the Challengers team had given an incorrect answer. I was glad to see CJ put in his place when this man's answer was right. Does CJ know that so many viewers find him arrogant and smug? (Or does he secretly enjoy the fact that at least he's being noticed)?! I'd love to see him put in his place.
Congratulations BBC. You've done it again. Eggheads was a winning formula until you chose to mess it up by replacing Dermot Murnaghan with the montonously-voiced Jeremy Vine. Then the silly stunt to find a new Egghead, in which the programme has to take the winner, has produced Barry who must be the most boring man on the planet. The original team members were unbearably smug but at least they had recognisable personalities for which they were, presumably, chosen. Is Barry going to be a permanent fixture or can he be sacked, I wonder? We. the viewers can, of course, turn off which I imagine we will be doing, in droves.

We were watching eggheads when the lady said she was married to an American, we were appalled to see the reaction of CJ,he pulled the face a three year old would have been proud of. How is he allowed to get away with it! We are glad that there is the new Barry and really hope they will keep CJ off as much as possible.

I am a frequent viewer of eggheads and i find cjs behaviour on screen unacceptable. He is totally rude when the opponent team is answering a question and hesitates he rolls his eyes and shakes his head. From a viewers point of view that is not sporty. He doesnt know all the answers.I am an irish viewer and my work mates feel the same way. I dont know whether my message will make any difference to his behaviour but i felt i must submit it.

I will not bother to list his failings because they have already been adequately covered by earlier comments.If the BBC thinks it makes the programme more interesting, then they are sadly mistaken. I think it's fairly obvious that the Eggheads have been given a list of possible questions before the show. To give one example out of many - Daphne with her phenomenal guesses - In which state in America is .....? Daphne - I have no idea but I'll have a guess, one out of 50. Oh gosh, what a surprise she got it right. (By the way I wish she would take that idiotic grin of her face.) Then, every so often, when the prize money is not too high, the visiting team wins. You don't fool me!
Lay off CJ-he is great fun. All the Eggheads are entertaining in their own special ways. Kevin is very clever, maybe a bit lacking in personality but a real gentleman. Daphne is a very clever lady(who mentors CJ) and Judith has her own strengths. As for Chris- he's a scream. They all add to the wonderful mix that is "Eggheads".
Hubby and I record and watch it every day- it's a brilliant mix, that's why it's lasted all these years. What a moaning faced bunch of humourless armchair critics many of you are!!!!

We thoroughly enjoy the Eggheads, and think it is a fantastic programme. Come on guys if you don't like it turn it off. If you do enjoy it. CJ, Daphne, Kevin, Chris, Barry and Judith are very clever people, give them some credit. Some of their opponents can be really annoying, making long drawn out explanations when answering their question. Their five minutes of fame perhaps.

what is the BBC playing at. Friday 20th is left with £8000 in the pot, Jeremy Vine and Barry. Monday we have £13.000 Dermot and no Barry. We have had repeats from 2007 showing since. If the BBC are going to change things aboutand not show the current series in full, then they should inform their viewers..Much prefer the 6.00pm slot rather than 6.30Pm
Bearing in mind that we seem to be having repeats at the moment - I would very much like to see the Eggheads eventually in contest with winners, runners-up and even the general non-winning contestants of the "Battle of the Brains" quiz show to see just how they fare.
No multi-choice questions and very quick responses from the contestants on the latter suggest that "Eggheads" would be very much up against very worth-while challengers, I go as far to as to venture that "Battle of the Brains" portrays greater "eggheads" than the celebs of the same name - and far more likeable people !!!
Are the likes of the VERY irritating Daphne, unlikeable Barry and the obnoxious CJ up to it ???

I preferred this programme when it was shown at 6 p.m. I find CJ the most entertaining of the Eggheads, and Daphne appears to me a really nice person with a formidable fund of knowledge. Barry was just getting into his stride when the repeats started. They are a varied collection of interesting personalities so can we go back to the new series, please.
I think Kevin is wonderful I would love to know more personal things about him if anyone has any details such as his age, whether his married or not, any children ect: I'm just nosey I'm afraid
I really enjoy eggheads, but I don't like Barry, it's the eyes. I hope CJ hasn't gone, he's always good for a laugh. And bring back Jeremy, he sends everybody up really well.

The most hilarious thing I have seen on eggheads is the time that CJ got a bizarre fringe. He must have realised how ridiculous he looked as it had disappeared by the next episode. What a complete and utter plonker he is! Why not find some likeable people for the show. The two old guys are fine, but Judith is so miserable. Please get rid of the poisonous Daphne and mad fringe man CJ.
I can't abide Daphne. I despise the way she always has to let us all know that she knows the answer to other people's questions. Kevin is the best Egghead. He's has the greatest mental capacity and doesn't gesture and show-off like the intolerable Daphne.

Eggheads is a fab show, but the insufferable T.J should be told about his often unsportsmanlike behaviour. Rolling his eyes and tutting when an opponant fails to meet with his standards or whatever, and today. April 15th. he had the audacity to insult another contestant by telling him he "didn't make eye contact with people", who looked like him! he was a shaven headed man. What the hell did he mean by that, and why do the B.B.C. allow him to behave in such a rude manner? T.J. is in danger of disappearing up his own backside, and frankly, that cant happen soon enough for me!
I was horrified to hear on yesterday's show,Judith Keppell saying,before answering a question with"lumbar puncture", that this was something she had always dreaded because it was incredibly painful. How I pitied anyone booked in for a lumbar puncture in the near future. I have to have lumbar punctures because of my medical condition, and while they are undoubtedly invasive, I have never felt any pain with them.A very thoughtless remark Mrs. Keppell, especially as you have no experience of them. Why, oh why, was this ignorant and potentially frightening remark not editted out?

I think Daphne cheats. Her "guessing" is beyond belief. Notice its been toned down lately. Don't know how this could happen but she often bends her head towards her little microphone.

It's a shame she doesn't get to read forums like this, as it seems I'm not alone in my views and it might cut her down to size if she realised people don't find her as ruddy marvellous as she obviously believes herself to be.

So many people moaning about a program they apparently like. Why don't people change channels or use the off switch. Eggheads is fantastic, give it a rest and understand that not all personalities are the same. So what if C.J. is ultra competative, so what if Daphne has a great record for lucky gueses, so what if Barry has bad dress sense, so what if Judith made a chance remark about an operation being painful .. sorry Kevin, no "so what" for you, as I got fed up very quickly with with the attacks on the others. For a country that, supposedly, frowns upon bullying .. well, get a grip of yourselves.
I'm warming to Barry now, there is a touch of the 'Fred Scuttle' about him but he seems a 'warm' man.

So often, in Eggheads, a supposed geography question is in fact, geology or general knowledge (frequently flags or currencies). So how did the compiler get past the first job slection page?

Have been watching the Egghead repeats for weeks, including episode 78 of series 7 last week when, I believe, a record £59.000 was not won. Episode 79 would have been due today - 27th July 2009 but a non repeat was shown instead, with a team competing for £14,000! Very confusing and frustrating. Why are the BBC so cavalier? Anyone know what big money was won in series 7 please and does it remain a record amount?
Today (27th July) I watched Eggheads as usual and was amazed to find the fund was only £14,000, the last time I viewed, which I am sure was only last week It was something like £58,000!!!!! What happened?? I have been watching avidly to see who would beat the Eggheads and go away with all that money.

Why is there little continuity with the transmission of Eggheads? We watched most of the recent series and the prize money was up to £60,000 at the end of last week. We have just tuned in (Mon 27/7) to find that series has been abandoned and we've started at square one again. Who won the £60,000? When was it transmitted? Anyway - that series was obviously old as that irritating, supercilious Barry was not on it but he was back on tonight. If you want viewers to get "hooked" on this show then I suggest you stop messing them about. There's nothing worse than watching a programme over weeks then missing the grand finale!
I was very angry when I put Eggheads on tonight. I saw the programme last week and there was 59.000 pounds to be won. Tonights was clearly a repeat with no warning. What happened to the 60000 show?

I switched on Eggheads this Monday to see if any challenging team could beat the Eggheads and win the £56K or £57K, and found that a past programme was showing with the prize £13K. I haven't seen any explanation for this. Does anyone know why>

Pity the excitement was building up, now it's a damp squib. If you let me know when/if you'll continue wioth the big game I'll watch again. Otherwise why should we bother?
The answer as to why the prize money suddenly decreased is that they changed from series 7 to series 10 which is the current series. Series 11 should be being filmed in the autumn. The £60,000 eventually became £75,000 before being won.

I think that Jeremy Vine was great on the Show and I loved the rapport between him and Judith. I agree Kevin is by far the best of the team as he does not natter about "well I know it's not this, or it's not that" he just answers the bloody question!
I must admit I have a bit of a soft spot for CJ but cannot stand Barry. Daphne has too may "guesses" that are correct.

where is the 60k gone? stop messing about and showing repeats. put the proper series back on, and hope the money aint gone astray, but hopefully there is a geniune reason for this. if repeats are carried on people will get bored and not watch. fingers crossed.
watched egg heads up until last week when prize money was 40 something thousand and watched last night and it was down to 17K ....how did that happen.?
I really enjoy the eggheads programme but wonder why it stopped at the £60,000 prize up here in Scotland? It seems to have gone back to a much smaller amount, what happened?
Just wanted to add my comments regarding the BBC and their blatant disregard for the viewers. Annoying, frustrating, insulting and incompetant. Why? It is inexcusable! Not even an explaination. Poor planning at best but bulls eye for alienating the audience. How can we trust them again?
Re MISSING EGGHEAD PROGRAMMES - BBC2 have apologised on p144 of latest Radio Times. They say that as the Series 7 episodes ran for so long the decision was made to stop them in order to show a new series. They admitted that they should have explained this.(Not often they admit they are wrong). HOWEVER, the old run will resume this Monday 10th August with the prize standing at £61,000.
HOORAY tonight they said that NEXT MONDAY they will cont with thr BIG prize money again, wasn't it so LOVELY to see the DEAF prople beat them tonight

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that in the last round the challengers usually get the last of the 3 multiple choice questions wrong thereby ensuring the Eggheads win?! Does Dermot have a secret stash of difficult questions that he whips out so the challengers lose? Is it all just a ploy to keep viewers watching to see the prize money increasing indefinitely and therefore build the tension?

Just watched tonights Eggheads. Frankly i'm appalled. For ages now i've been convinced that the BBC have been feeding the answers to those smug so called brain boxes, but what happened at the end of tonight's show was the last straw. Last but one question to Eggheads asked them what famous walk in Britain was known as Le Jog. Eggheads were about to answer Pennine Way, when BBC producers must have been screaming into Dermots earpiece not to let the £71k walk out the door...he then spelt it out for them and told them it was in capital letters. Duh..Lands End to John O'Groats...which they subsequently got. and then went on to win. That's it, i've had it with this complete sham of a show.
Why are people so willing to believe that everything is fixed. My husband and I love watching Eggheads and we compete against the champions; sometimes we actually win.
Daphne is not the sweet old lady she would like you to believe. She is cunning and two faced and a know-it-all, and believe me nowone likes a know-it-all. Can't believe some people must fall for that "sweet" appearance.

I couldn't agree more, The philosophy is obviously let's give the eggheads questions that they will know. Take tonight...last question about tennis.CJ's (mr arrogance and chief bad loser)speciality. Rather like asking a 7 year old what 2 and 2 are when added together.

Why do people think it's fixed? The BBC wouldn't save any money by fixing the show - the payout is £1000 per show, whatever happens.
What on earth would there be to gain by fixing it?

I have often thought that there is some degree of indirect fixing on this show. Although not always the case, I have noticed that if the challengers choose to take the second set of questions in the individual and the final rounds, they tend to win. I wonder if the second set of questions are slightly easier and play on the fact that given the choice of going first or second, most people (the challengers) will choose first.
Please, could Dermot vary his introductions just a little? 'Are your 3 brains better....'possibly the greatest quiz team','millionaire' Judith, etc etc. I switch off sound until questions begin.
After reading all the various comments about who goes first or who has the easiest questions, would it not be feasible to give both sets of contestants the same questions in a sound proof box, then you would see the knowledgable ones going through to the final set of questions
I watch Eggheads every week night, and enjoy. Daphne sometimes annoyed me by letting us know she knows the answers. Alas, she pales into insignificance now that the absolute "pain in the neck" Barry has arrived. Dreadful skite.

i don't want to be cruel but the team does not look friendly, very distant, removed. the premise of the show is entertainment and by their looks they seem like they're unwillingly taking part, as if the whole thing is beneath them. bored. another thing is that the questions seem very biased in favour of the eggheads, no matter what order the questions are taken in. i realise that contestants may not be up to par but it seems very coincidental that nearly every new team meets the same fate in the same way. mr. murnaghan has a lot of very lengthy pauses before he gives the results. i only watch because a friend does, i don't seek to watch it.

'Are You An Egghead?' is sooo boring - last years pretentious failures coming round for a second chance! Last year was bad, but this year it's much worse.
I'm very disappointed that they're aiming to add yet another member to the Eggheads team. I think that the 'Are you an Egghead?' spin-off series should only have come into being in the first place if one of original Eggheads was wanting to leave, not merely to add a 6th member. When will it end - when they have 20 Eggheads on the team? By that time I will have long lost interest, and so would have most of the viewers I suspect.
The egg heads are chosen for their quiz know how.... not for their personalities. Sure they're flawed characters... CJ is a bit snooty for example..... but that's why I love them! If they were chosen for other attributes then maybe they wouldn't be such good quizzers. I like that it's real. I'm fed up of sanitised dumbed down television that's driven by smiley 'honed for TV' types. It's part of the appeal for me. I've noticed that often the best pub quiz teams are of a similar mould. It's REAL. By the way.... I think Kevin is my favourite.
If it is not fixed why don't they put up the questions for tv viewers to see then ask the contestants to pick A or B question then we would know if they are giving easy questions to the Eggheads.
Going first or second is irrelevant as the quizmaster can ask which ever he wants to and we would not know.

There's no point having two separate piles of question cards. The cards would probably still hold two sets of questions, one easy set for the eggheads and the harder set for the contestants. So picking questions from Set 1 or Set 2 would make no difference. I reckon the show doesn't want to pay out if they can help it, so they make it easier for the eggheads to win. Also I think Daphne and CJ are so annoying and they visibly hate being wrong! It's hilarious.
What happens to the Eggheads 'Challenge' winners once their year with the team is up? Barry, being a very worthy Egghead, really don't want to lose him...so couldn't their be a lunchtime Eggheads 2 in which x-winners take turns to be in the team?
Can't tell you how much I HATE ' Are You An Egghead', I don't see it every day but so far there hasn't been one of last years rejects who I would like to see on a regular basis on the 6pm show! They make me cringe.
When the challengers win a large amount (say $10,000 or more) why not have another "right of reply" session with the same team with the Eggheads, but let the Eggheads choose their categories instead of the challengers? It would make for something a bit different and it would be interesting to see if the challengers could still win
