Play Misty for Me was Clint Eastwood's directorial debut, and was a precursor to the "stalking" thriller Fatal Attraction.

The film gave Eastwood an unusual opportunity to play a regular contemporary guy in a thriller about sex, obsession, and stalking. He plays Dave Garver, a self-centered California radio jazz DJ.

One night he meets Evelyn (Jessica Walter) in a bar, and they go to his house for what he assumes is a one-night stand. Dave discovers that Evelyn has been repeatedly calling his radio show to request that he, "play Misty for me", and she is not about to disappear quietly now that he has had his wicked way...
