What an absolute disgrace that channel 4 is going to air this programme.
These people are mentally impaired for sure and i have only seen the trailer for this programme. DO people not realise that monkeys are wild animals and should be in the wild, swinging from trees and doing things that monkeys do in their own natural inviroment. There is something seriously wrong with society and the makers of this programme, you call this entertainment?

I think it looks like it's going to be a blast - about time they start putting a bit of fun back in to documentaries - they are all so dull. I know people will wobble on about how terrible it is to keep a monkey - but is it really any diffferent than keeping a dog? And in captivity monkies live for 40/50 years and in the wild if they make it past the first year and have a full life they are lucky to see 25 - and face a life of constant fights, in-breeding, exclusion and rejection, untreated sickness, starvation, parasites, deforestation, continual uninvited mating, cannibalism - really is wearing a dress so bad by comparison?

I have never before commented on the internet but feel compelled as I'm disgusted. This programme should not be aired. It will only increase people's desire to keep monkeys as pets which is a disgrace. For every monkey taken from the wild, an average of 6 have to be killed in order to take them away from their family. They are then living in an environment entirely alien to and inappropriate for them. Wild animals should remain wild, they are born free and should stay that way. Have some respect for the animal kingdom and if you don't want children, don't get a monkey, get a dog!

Of course people know monkeys are wild animals - as are dogs, cats, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits, chicken, chinchilla and tortoises but it doesn't stop us wanting to care for them and offering them a better life than they get in the wild. Let's face it humans are wild animals but we choose to live with central heating, microwaves and wide screen TV's - Why? Because it's more fun than swinging from trees. I for one can't wait to see cute monkey's eating birthday cake and having lipstick put on - I'm getting in the beers and having a pizza delivered - can't wait.

Dude programs like this are obviously made for the audience to look at and make up your own mind. I agree, i think that keeping monkeys as pets is terrible, which is why its important that shows about it get shown. There may be some wrong things in society, but i believe programme makers have a responsibility to show them too the public so people are aware of them, and can make up their own mind. Not everything on tv is trying to push a message onto the viewers, sometimes shows try and inform viewers so they can make up their own mind. would channel 4 be a disgrace if they showed a program about nazis because nazis are wrong?! its a documentary you idiot.

SPOILT ROTTEN??? How utterly riducluous! These Monkeys that are taken in as pets are stolen from the wild or bred in captivity. They go on to lead miserable lives with humans in unnatural surroundings without enough things to stimulate their minds. This programme should be highlighting the negative impacts on the monkeys. It's a disgrace

I've just seen more about it in today's Sun and makes me want to watch it even more. It's going to be a terrific programme. Nicola we are all kept in captivity - go to your local park, take off your clothes and swing about in the trees as nature intended or light a fire to keep warm in oxford street and see just how quickly you are arrested. If you honestly think animals that live in the wild have a better deal than those in captivity - you need to get yourself to thailand or malaysia and see for yourself how they really live - you will also notice how they go out of their way to seek out human contact and the treats humans offer - they are all free-minded animals yet want what we have.
Why is everyone so bothered about the show highlighting negative aspects?!? do you people need to be told what to think by the television?! watch it and make your minds up for gods sake. Also - its just as bad keeping a canary in a cage - think about it. Damn playa hatas. I'm gonna watch this with my mum and she loves monkeys. but the phrase SHOULD NOT BE AIRED is stoopid. everything SHOULD BE AIRED so that people can know about things. I don't watch nightcops and then go and beat up policeman. i read all about it in todays sun and i think its clearly gonna be an interesting show which will no doubt create much debate on the subject - as it should! Anyone who thinks shows shouldnt be aired because they dont like the subject matter needs to shut their monkeyholes.

good grief you're all idiots (or trolls, it;s hard to tell).
Monkeys make terrible pets. That's the truth of the matter. BABY monkeys or adolescents are cute and cuddly and needy, but once they hit sexual maturity, they freqiently become agressive, attack their owners, multilate THEMSELVES, and end up being sold to breeders or surrendered to sanctuaries before they are 10 years old.
When it comes to keeping pets, monkeys are fundanemtally different from dogs, cats and other domesticated animals. Dogs, cats and horses have been bred over thousands of generations to be happy living with people. Even when it comes to other exotics, reptiles like snakes and tortoises are relatively unintelligent and it is fairly easy to satisfy their psychological and behavioural needs. Farm animals are herd based herbivores/flocking birds, and (on good farms) are allowed to live in groups, and browse/graze, fulfilling their fairly straightforward phychological needs. "babied" monkeys don't get what they need. These are highly intelligent and intensely social primates. A human may be able to feed and change a baby monkey, or care for a "pre-teen", but when the babies grow up and hit sexual maturity, they usually become extremely destructive and agressive. Many breeders offer surgical removal or TEETH and FINGERNAILS to prevent injury to the owners when the monkey matures; when was the last time you met a dog or cat whose teeth had been pulled for human convenience?
These monkeys are not happy, or if they are, it is fleeting and will evaporate once they actually start actiing like real, adult monkeys, which they will. Sanctuaries who take in surrendered pets report OCD type behaviour like rocking, thumb sucking etc. that are never seen in the wild. Self mutilation; hair pulling, biting themselves till they bleed. Agression towards their own species.
I suspect this show will use the tried and tested "look at the freaks" formula: start off laughing at them, then bring us around to their point of view with stories and pictures of just how CUTE monkeys are, then destroy the delusion with footage of breeding centres, injuries from owners whose monkeys grew up and turned on them, and reports from sanctuaries of just how damaged these monkeys are by the time they get there.
