director Henry Hathaway's Arthurian adventure is based on the popular newspaper cartoon strip by Hal Foster. Robert Wagner plays the eponymous prince, a Viking invited to join King Arthur's court. But the evil Sir Brack plans to oust the king and then invade Valiant's Scandanavian home and only Valiant can stop him. Janet Leigh and Debra Paget are the respective love interests to both parties and, with much of the film being shot in Britain rather than on a Hollywood back-lot, viewers will enjoy identifying castles and locations that form a backdrop to the rousing action.

Fred McMurray stars in Joseph Kane's rollicking adventure as Captain Boll, a tough 19th-century merchant seaman seeking a treasure trove of jewels on a remote island in the Dutch East Indies. Helped by native girl Bintang, he defies local laws to take the gems, but the pair are pursued by the vengeful tribesmen. Just as escape seems impossible, the island's volcano erupts, but can Boll and Bintang escape its fury? Such was the success of this epic that it was a staple of children's matinees into the late 70s, thanks to the stupendous special effects by Howard and Theodore Lydecker.

John Ford's Oscar-winning romantic comedy stars John Wayne as John Thornton, an Irish-American boxer who, after a professional tragedy, returns to Ireland to retire. There, he meets and falls for the fiery Mary Kate Danaher, much to the disgust of her brother Squire Will Danaher. Eventually Thornton breaks down her defences and the pair marry, but even then it takes the mother of all fistfights to convince her brother to accept the union.
