Fantasy about a piano virtuoso who spends his entire life aboard a cruise ship. Novacento - named after the year of his birth - is abandoned aboard a transatlantic liner and raised by the ship's mechanic. Forced to remain in hiding for much of his early life, the boy teaches himself to play the piano, and news of his talent soon spreads beyond the confines of the ship.

Unfortunately, things don't go according to plan; the imposter decides not to reveal himself, leaving the ex-Emperor to eke out a living as a commoner, although at least in the company of Nicole 'Pumpkin' Truchaut, in Alan Taylor's witty what-if film.
