Edward Dmytryk's Oscar-winning Western stars Spencer Tracy as Matt Devereaux, a strict disciplinarian who treats his sons Joe, Ben Denny and Mike little better than employees on his ranch. However, when he leads a raid on a copper mine that's destroying his land, it's Joe who takes the blame. But returning home after three years in prison, he finds his father dead and his brothers unwilling to recognise his sacrifice.
