The King of the '50s thriller, novelist Eric Ambler, wrote this comedy spy thriller to highlight the talents of Margaret Lockwood. She plays Frances Gray, a prim entomologist recruited by the British secret service to investigate an obscure Balkan state's attempt to develop biological weapons. Unfortunately, she runs into police chief Anton Razinski, who frames her for murder, injects her with a truth serum and imprisons her. But she escapes and teams up with US journalist Bill Casey in a bid to prevent insects infected with a lethal bacteria from being used by the military. Unfortunately, she is still under the influence of the drug and thinks she is the heroine of a radio play, which doesn't make their task any easier.

Herbert Lom stars in the dual role as Jules and Georges de Lisle, identical twins and daring trapeze artists. When they win the lottery, a million French francs, an unscrupulous publicity man, Terence de Marney, sends his girlfriend Penny to sweeten up Jules, who is susceptible to female attention, and con him out of the money. But when the twins find out they have been swindled, they use their identical natures to gain revenge on de Marney while having the perfect alibi. Escaping the charge of murder, fate still has retribution in store for both of them. Alfred Travers' thriller marks the screen debut of Dixey, who was better known during the war as The Queen of Striptease, keeping up morale at London's Whitehall Theatre with her peek-a-boo revues.
