For the urban souls among you, we have Fair City, a gritty controversial drama set in a fictional suburb of Dublin city where extra-marital affairs, under-handed dealings and court cases are as part and parcel of life as catching the bus to work.

This gritty, urban drama is set in Dublin's Northside. Like other soaps Fair City prides itself in not being afraid to address real life and controversial issues in their diverse storylines. Recent stoiries have included drug abuse, euthanasia, homosexuality, rape and A.I.D.S.

Life is never dull in Carrigstown, the fictional suburb where the Fair City characters live. Take for example the Molloy family. Parents Harry (Paul Raynor) and Delores (Martina Stanley) are on the verge of splitting up due to Harry's affair with Delores' best friend Shelley O'Connor (Hilary Reynolds)!

Their daughter Lorraine (Maeve McGrath) has recently recovered from the most awful trauma of being raped and the ensuing court case, plus her recent addiction to uppers, however she has now found love with her childhood sweetheart Jimmy Doyle (David Mitchell), who she is destined to marry. But how long is this happiness going to last?

Niamh Cassidy (Clelia Murphy) is the sexy twenty-something who lives with Barry O'Hanlon (Patrick David Nolan), 15 years her senior. He was previously her schoolteacher and while she was stil his pupil, the couple were involved in a passionate clinch. This almost lost his job when she pretended that he seduced her. However they have put the past behind them now and are now engaged to be married, but is she really happy with him, or has he become too boring for her?

Then there's the super-efficient but unlucky in love, Nicola Prendergast (Claudia Carroll) who first met Paul Brennan (Tony Tormey) when they worked together in J.S. Ryans, along with Donal Maher (David Heap). Their relationship has always been tempestuous and constantly undermined by Paul's feelings towards Helen Doyle (Kira Carroll).

There has never been any love lost between Nicola and Helen and things were particularly strained in the beginning of the relationship, when Paul and Helen shared a house together. When Paul went to London to see Helen, Nicola followed him and found them in bed together!

This only got worse when Nicola found out about another affair he had in America, so she decided to sleep with Donal to get back at him for his indiscretion.

Things recovered for a while when Nicola and Paul agreed to marry, but on the eve of the big day Paul found out about Nicola and Donal, he went through with it however after Helen blatantly rejected him.

Yet, when Nicola discovered she was pregnant, Paul admitted that he was the father of Helen's child. Having taken enough, Nicola threw him out and applied for a judicial seperation. But how long will this last?

Shown every weekday at 8.30pm on Tara Television.

i cant believe the producers of fair city producers would stoop so low as to sell another human being after all the year that many nationalities sought for freedom. Its a disagrace. I hope that 'Bill' is burnt in this fire to get 'his just reward'
