Men Without Women

Series 1, episode 6

Written by Dick Clement, Ian La Frenais

Directed by Sydney Lotterby

Originally Aired On: Thursday, 10 October 1974

Porridge' is slang for a jail sentence and habitual offender Norman Stanley Fletcher is doing five years of it. He whiles away the time sharing his wealth of experience with his fellow inmates, particularly naive, young first-timer Lennie, whom Fletch takes under his fatherly wing. Fletch offers his services to his fellow felons by drafting a letter to their respective spouses to remind them not to stray while they are inside. Meanwhile Fletch has hatched a plot to make everyone believe his own wife has strayed in order to con the authorities into giving him some compassionate leave.
