Kate and Mike married three months after meeting on the White House lawn. And although they have a lot in common, including their love of newspapers and their 15-year-old daughter Abby, their marriage did not last. To avoid working with her ex-husband, Kate decides to resign and move to another paper, but she soon finds out that her editor has already taken the job that she was going for. Instead she replaces the editor in her current office and becomes Mike's new boss. Her impressive reputation as a hard nosed reporter has made her the first female editor of the New York Sun.
