This SitCom is based on the lives and interactions of four oldster women whom have been divorced or widowed and who live together in Miami.

Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur) was a teacher who's main aim in life is to find a companion whom she can relate to after her husband left her for an air stewardess. Her mother Sophia Petrillo(Estelle Getty) is the octogenarian, tactless one who moved into the house when her retirement home burn't down and adds her constant comical outlookand frequent 'picture this..' stories.

Rose Nylund is the dippy 'dumb blonde' of the house, after being widowed she became a grief counsellor and frequently harped on about her Norwegian routes and St. Olaf.

Finally there is the owner of the house and incorrigible man eater Blanche Devereaux is the southern belle of prodigious sexual appetite. Maybe a little too promiscuous for her own good.
