Sam takes a sudden interest in politics when a lady he is dating, Janet Eldridge, runs for city councilwoman. Diane decides to support Janet's competitor because she fears that if Janet wins, she will also win Sam. For the first time since she and Sam split up, Diane realizes that she may have lost him for good, when he and Janet appeared headed for a serious relationship.
