Mulder strongly suspects that the villain is in fact a werewolf, but this gets met with criticism from the people who work with him. As more victims are found the pair are led to the door of a local prostitute who informs them that it was her boyfriend who is the murderer so the pair place her under protective custody, but she becomes the latest victim. While conducting an autopsy on the woman, Scully's terrified assistant displays signs of Hantavirus and dies.
