After SG-9 are reported missing in action the SG-1 team set out to find them. On arrival at the planet the team discover that SG-9 were treated like gods by the inhabitants but the captain of the team started to abuse his power and now rules the planet mercilessly, forcing the inhabitants to rebuild Gou'ald temples and condeming disbelievers to death. It's now up to the SG-1 team to bring about Hanson's demise by informing the inhabitants of the planet that Hanson's power comes from science, not divinity.
