SG-1 arrive on the planet Tollan where they find that a volcano is erupting, leaving bodies littering the ground around the Tollan Stargate. The team try to get as many survivors as they can to return with them but when on Earth the Tollan's leader, Omoc makes it obvious that he is upset by his rescue as Earth is too primitive for the likes of his race so refuses to answer any questions and demands to be transported to a more advanced world. It is soon revealed that the reason for Omoc's suspicious nature is due to a previous battle, with a planet similar to Earth that used the Tollans for their technology but that cost them their stability. Now Earth looks as though it is heading the same way as military intelligence is wanting to use the Tollan's technology to advance weapon engineering. Now the team must decide whether to risk court martial and let the Tollan's go and save Earth from self-destruction.
