SG-1 return from the planet Oannes without Daniel who has, supposedly, been burnt alive. However as his Earthly friends grieve for him he is being held against his will by a part human/part amphibious creature called Nem. Nem wants to know details of his partner, Omoroca who lived on Earth 4,000 years previously. After failing to recall his knowledge on Babylonian history, he agrees for Nem to read his mind. During this project the two realise they have more in common than once thought, as both had lost their partners to the Goa'uld. Meanwhile, the remaining members of the team use hypnosis to return to the time before Daniel's disappearance, to discover what may have happened to him.
