Following harbour seal pups off the coast of California as their mothers prepare them for the dangers of the deep. Pups must swim within minutes of being born and learn how to cling to their mothers' coats to prevent them from being swept away. Mothers also 'instruct' their pups in hunting, communication, navigation, enemy detection and evasion - useful skills if you are the preferred prey of great white sharks
