Running Time: 60 minutes (approx)

Presented by David Attenborough, this is the biggest wildlife series devoted to mammals and features some of the most fascinating species in the world. It was first shown in November 2002. It was the fourth series in Attenborough's trilogy which also included Life on Earth, The Life of Birds and Life in the Undergrowth.

Each of the ten episodes looks in detail at one mammal group and explores their day-to-day existence. Despite his age, Attenborough travelled to a multitude of locations around the world and the filming provided many challenges.

Some mammal groups had never been filmed so closely before, and the series documented some fascinating discoveries. For example the lions, leopards and tigers were for the first time filmed hunting nocturnally with infrared technology.
