The Scrappy Races: Home Builds

Series 1, episode 0

Four teams of madcap mechanics have six weeks and just £1,500 to build an all-terrain, multi-tasking vehicle that can race them across Britain. Once on the road they must modify their machines to face the greatest challenges man and Mother Nature can throw at them, from fire fighting to castle sieging. Can the grungy group of bikers, trio of home county bobbies or Scottish engineers unseat the reigning champions, Yorkshire's very own Chaos Crew? In the first episode, the teams build their vehicles at home. With a fistful of notes they each rummage around their local scrap yards to find the perfect base vehicle for the right price. After six weeks, several disasters and many late nights the weird and wonderful vehicles are ready to go through the dreaded SVA test. This is an uber-MOT that all home-built vehicles must pass before they're deemed safe for the open road. Providing they pass, they head for a top-secret testing ground to race their vehicles, win the first championship points, and prove their creations roadworthy.
