The Scrappy Races

Run for cover as Scrapheap Challenge leaves the scrapyard and sets out on the open road in a brand new spin-off series. Five teams from the original programme go head to head to build the ultimate all-round vehicle for a gruelling 1,000-mile race across the UK. Presenters Robert Llewellyn and Lisa Rogers watch as the amateur engineers are given just five weeks and only £1,500 to build awe-inspiring all-terrain roadsters from scratch. Then the Scrappy Racers head out on a journey through the country lanes, leafy suburbs and inner cities of Britain, facing hair-raising challenges at three very special locations. Each week, the teams have eight hours on local scrapheaps to adapt their vehicles for the challenges ahead. In this week's programme, the teams travel over 250 miles to Tong in Yorkshire, where they have just one day on a local scrapheap to adapt their mechanical monsters to take on one of the most challenging 4x4 courses in the country. With rocky lumps and bumps, extremely muddy slopes and perilously deep water, it would test the off-road ability of a Sherman tank!
