In December 1968, teenagers David Arthur Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen were shot and killed on a quiet road just outside Benicia, California. Their murders marked the start of a 40-year hunt for a killer who would go on to strike at least five more times, taunting local detectives and journalists with clues to his identity as he went. David Fincher's highly stylish retelling of this sinister true story concentrates on the cops and reporters who became obsessed with the case, with San Francisco Chronicle hack Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.) and cartoonist Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal) leading the civvy search while David Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) and William Armstrong (Anthony Edwards) led the police investigation.

A very different beast to David Fincher's previous killer flick Se7en, Zodiac entertains viewers with the details of police procedure and persistence, creating a disturbing tangle of evidence and guesswork that offers no resolution for viewers at its end.
