Gene Tierney plays Ann Sutton, a kleptomaniac 'rescued' by hypnotist and fortune teller David Korvo when she is caught stealing. But he plans to use her as the dupe in his plan to murder his former mistress, Theresa Randolph, letting her take all the blame. Only a suspicious policeman and Sutton's psychiatrist husband William stand between her and the gallows in Otto Preminger's taut thriller.
