This classic all-action Second World War espionage thriller sees an elite group of commandos dispatched to the Bavarian Alps to rescue an American general, who is being held by the Nazis.

When a British aircraft is shot down and crashes in Nazi-held territory, the Germans capture the only survivor, an American general, and take him to the nearest SS headquarters. However, unknown to the Germans who have captured him, General George Carnaby (Robert Beatty) has a full background briefing on the forthcoming D-Day operation.

Now, worried that the General will leak this highly classified information, the British order Major John Smith (Richard Burton, pictured, right) to lead a crack commando team to rescue him. The team includes Clint Eastwood, (pictured, left) as Lt Morris Schaffer. However it soon becomes apparent that not only do they have to fight the German army to get to the general, they also have to deal with a traitor within their midst.

Highly recommended.
