A big screen version of Myers' Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch, the Wayne's World movie quickly became a cultural phenomena following its US release in 1991. Packed with quotable lines and memorable scenes - most notably the boys' ingratiating backstage encounter with Alice Cooper and the legendary headbanging sequence that propelled Bohemian Rhapsody back to the top of the charts - the film's quirky, in-joke appeal made it a cult favourite for years after. Directed by Penelope Spheeris, who made her name in music documentaries such as The Decline of Western Civilisation - Wayne's World captures the manic spirit of the SNL sketch while successfully stringing the concept out into a compellingly anarchic plot, complete with lovable characters and some wonderfully surreal moments.
