Adapted from the novel, this tense World War II drama follows the 12 men of the 918th Bombardment Group, Eighth U.S Air Force. This group were solely responsible for the daylight bombing raids over Germany, and German-held Europe. The unit flew the B-17's out from Archbury, near London, England.

General Frank Savage (Gregory Peck) is in command of this group of 'hard luck' bombers. It is his responsibility to train this group to become a highly disciplined fighting unit despite their inevitable fate.

Nominated for 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor (Gregory Peck). Actually won 2 including Best Supporting Actor - Dean Jagger.
