Oscar-winning adaptation of Henry Fielding's bawdy tale of a rakish young man's romantic meanderings in 18th-century England. The eponymous hero discovers early in life that he has a winning way with women, but his heart is set on a local dignitary's daughter who seems beyond his grasp. Director Richardson's use of unorthodox cinematic techniques helps to bring the playfulness of Fielding's novel to life.
