Dark interpretation of 'Thieves like Us', combining gangster-led film noir with a touching love story. A naive young man is hired by two callous criminals to help them in a bank raid, but he is injured and is taken to a hideout to recover. He falls in love with the young woman who nurses him back to health, but the forces of law and order threaten their hopes of romantic bliss. Nicholas Ray's directorial debut.
