Based on Henry James' novel, Iain Softley's film stars Helena Bonham Carter as Kate, a young woman with barely a finger-tip hold on wealthy society. Rather than marry for money, she falls for penniless journalist Merton Densher, but their love seems doomed until Kate meets Millie, a young, dying heiress who's travelling Europe.
