Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) is a self-made billionaire who is bored of being able to buy everything he needs or desires.

Being irresistible to women, he also does not feel any challenge in that area and the addition of his wealth makes any challenge impossible.

However, there are a few things even he can't buy so he takes up his own style of hobby, he steals priceless Art masterpieces.

But, after the theft of a Claude Monet painting, the only person who suspects Thomas Crown is Catherine Banning (Rene Russo), a detective.

Now her job is to retrieve the picture, no matter what it takes. Unfortunately for her, she gets too deeply involved with Thomas to keep a professional distance to the case.

Fortunately though, Thomas seems to fall for her, too.
