Film-maker Errol Morris reconstructs and investigates in riveting detail the case of Randall Dale Adams, a man who was kept on Death Row in Texas for 12 years when he was falsely convicted of killing a policeman.

In this documentary detective story, Morris examines the fantasy and reality that surrounded the main characters in Adams's story to prove that Adams was - as he had always claimed - innocent.

This 1988 film won Adams his pardon and freedom, but in a curious epilogue Adams then sued Morris to reclaim the rights to his life story so that he could pursue film offers.
