Willy Clark (Walter Matthau) and Al Lewis (George Burns) are two retired vaudevillains (people whom work as stage entertainers) who have been feuding since their stage show broke up.

However due to financial situations, the two reluctantly agree to bury the hatchet and appear, reunited on a television special. But they don't do too well on the hatchet burying as hilarious arguments erupt from the first rehearsal.
