Based on a the true story of Alvin Straight (Richard Farnsworth) who in 1994 travelled 240 miles across the American state of Iowa to visit his brother who had recently suffered a heart attack. The trouble was Alvin's eyesight was too poor for him to drive a car and his legs weren't what they used to be. So he travelled the entire way on a 1960's riding lawnmower a journey that took him in total 6 weeks
