When the Grace family swap New York for a remote old house owned by their great, great uncle Arthur Spiderwick (David Strathairn), it's not long before strange accidents and disappearances occur. Young Jared (Freddie Highmore) immediately gets the blame, but when his twin brother Simon (also played by Highmore) and sister Mallory investigate, they discover that the Spiderwick estate is teaming with fairies and goblins and that an evil ogre called Mulgarath (Nick Nolte) is after a magical book written by their uncle. Can they stop him?

Based on the much-loved books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Spiderwick Chronicles takes children's storytelling on an incredible journey through a dazzling and dangerous other world. Director Mark Waters isn't afraid to turn up the chills for his PG certificate adventure, using CGI to create a dark land crawling with hobgoblins, spirits, griffins and trolls.

Freddie Highmore adds Spiderwick to a growing list of impressive performances, while Martin Short and Seth Rogen stand out in a strong supporting cast.
