Period drama about a woman who falls from grace when she is revealed to be pregnant by a man who is not her husband. Demi Moore stars as Hester Prynne, a young Puritan who refuses to name the father of her child - her husband is missing, presumed dead. Forced to wear a scarlet letter as a permanent reminder of her infidelity, Hester gives birth to a baby girl. Meanwhile, the real father of her child, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale (Gary Oldman) is unjustly persecuting Hester, and her real husband (Robert Duvall), who has returned with a new identity, is out to find the man who gave her the baby in the first place...
