Glenn Close dotes on her coma-afflicted son Joshua Jackson to the exclusion of her husband and daughter. Lawyer Dermot Mulroney dotes more on legal papers than wife Moira Kelly while Jackson's former lover Patricia Clarkson is trying to pull herself together after divorce. Rose Troche's second film, after Bedrooms and Hallways, is another disturbing series of stories of suburban lives that intertwine, told with both compassion and glimpses of humour.
