The Ring (2002)
Written by Ehren Kruger, Kôji SuzukiDirected by Gore VerbinskiRunning Time: 90 minutes (approx)Production Year: 2002Rating: 15 CertificateProduction Country: USA/JapanFilmed in ColourIt sounded like an urban legend - a videotape filled with strange, grainy, images, leading to a real-life phone call, which starts the countdown of the viewer's death in exactly seven days. As a newspaper reporter, Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) was sceptical of this strange story, until her niece met with a mysterious death exactly one week after watching such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video... but after she, then her young son watches it, she realises that she has just seven days to unravel the mystery of the "Ring" before they both die. A very scary movie, oddly there is no blood or gore to speak of here. Instead the film's clever premise and realistic acting make it genuinely frightening. When is The Ring next on TV?
