Rod Steiger stars in Sidney Lumet's drama as a pawn shop owner in New York whose attempts to cope with ghetto life and his family trigger flashbacks to his experiences in the Nazi concentration camps in one of the first films to examine the psychological damage to those who survived the Holocaust.
