As punishment for killing Pharaoh Seti and sleeping with his mistress, Egyptian priest Imhotep was mummified alive and cursed.

In 1923, clumsy Brit's Jonathan Carnaham (John Hannah) and his Egyptologist sister Evie (Rachel Weisz) join chancer, Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) on an archaeological dig near the ancient city Hamunaptra to uncover an undiscovered pharoah's tomb.

Unfortunately they have chosen the tomb of Imhotep and during the tomb's disturbance the group unwittingly unleash his demonic spirit (Arnold Vosloo) and the world is now at risk of distruction. Now there is a race against time to stop the onslaught of this demonic force.
