In this romantic thriller, Brian Aherne plays Andre Morestan, a middle class Parisian called for jury service. The case is murder, the accused Natalie Rougin and at first Morestan believes her guilty but as the case proceeds, he argues with his fellow jurors for her acquittal. When she is released, penniless and homeless, he invites her to stay with his family but his son Pierre falls for her charms and is soon stealing to finance their elopement. But their plans are threatened - she has another admirer, Henri Lurette who also sat on the jury, still believes her guilty and threatens to expose her. As tensions rise, Andre must decide who to believe in Charles Vidor's film.
