The original plot is transposed to America and heavily pumped up with FX. The Jackal has has been hired by a Russian mafia boss to kill a top figure in the US government. The FBI are desperate to stop the Jackal at all costs, and when conventional methods fail, they enlist the help of Declan Mulqueen (Richard Gere), a convicted IRA terrorist, who has his own reasons for wanting to hunt down the assassin.
