The Hunting Party (2007)
Written by Richard Shepard, Scott AndersonDirected by Richard ShepardRunning Time: 120 minutes (approx)Production Year: 2007Rating: 15 CertificateProduction Country: USA/Croatia/BosniaandHerzegovinaFilmed in ColourAfter going into meltdown during a live report from the Bosnian War, the career of journalist Simon Hunt (Richard Gere, pictured) goes down the tubes while his cameraman Duck (Terrence Howard, pictured) goes from strength-to-strength. Years later, Hunt meets up with Duck in post-war Bosnia and ropes him into a crackpot scheme to track down wanted war criminal Radoslav "The Fox" Bogdanovic. Hoping to relaunch his career, bag the substantial reward money for Bogdanovic's arrest and get some closure for the atrocities he witnessed during the conflict, Hunt embarks on a shambolic search for The Fox that takes him and Duck into the dark heart of the deeply damaged country. This blackly comic satire deftly mixes action with political commentary. Gere is surprisingly effective playing against type as a deeply cynical burn-out, looking for redemption. And The Matador director Richard Shepard shows a rare talent for tackling serious subject matter with a combination of humour, sensitivity and incisiveness. When is The Hunting Party next on TV?
