A stunning adaptation of Edith Wharton's novel with Gillian Anderson, best known for The X-Files, in her breakthrough film role as Lily Bart, a member of 20s New York society whose life and prospects are slowly destroyed by a chain of circumstances that leave her an outcast. Terence Davies' film has been acclaimed as a masterpiece, with Anderson's central performance proof she is an actress of a wider range than possibly imagined.
