This gunslinging saga paints a bitterly cynical portrait of America during the Civil War as three men search for a Confederate government treasure chest buried in a cemetery.

The movie starts with The Ugly being turned in by his partner, The Good as he is a wanted man. On the Ugly's day of execution by hanging, the Good shoots him down allowing him to escape his ordeal.

However when they have a disagreement The Good leaves the Ugly alone in the desert to die, where he vows revenge.

Now the Ugly has tracked the Good down and decides to deliver the same fate his partner had previously given him.

On near passing, a dying man gives the Good the secret of the hidden pay roll in a cemetary.

Now, both the Good and the Ugly have been captured and placed in a Union Prisoner of War camp run by the evil officer, The Bad.

On discovering the pairs wealthy secret he takes them both out of the camp to go in search of the hidden treasure, so the three stick together in an uneasy alliance to find the gold
