Supernatural horror thriller directed by Sam Raimi tells the story of Annie Wilson (Cate Blanchett), a widow with a 'gift' living in Georgia with her three sons.

The gift that Annie was born with (and passed down through the women of her family) is the ability to see visions of the future or catch glimpses of remote events. Ever since her husband died, she has been surviving by using her gift to do psychic readings from home.

Unfortunately, there are those who don't like what Annie does, such as Sheriff Johnson (J.K. Simmons), who thinks it is all an act; and others who accuse Annie of consorting with the Devil, the worst of whom is the volatile and dangerous Donnie Barksdale (excellently played by Keanu Reeves in the role of his career). Donnie also happens to be the abusive husband of one of Annie's clients, Valerie (Hilary Swank).

When a rich society girl (Katie Holmes) is murdered, Annie is asked to use her powers to help the investigation. She soon realizes she's the only one who can testify to what truly happened ... and that she could be the killer's next target.
