A superbly crafted story of the disintegration of a couple's marriage after the death of their two young sons. Moments of black comedy are juxtaposed with the inevitably tragic scenes in this psychological drama. Bridges plays Ted Cole, a lecherous and eccentric writer who hires a young assistant called Eddie and promises to teach him to write. But the young man soon finds himself caught in the middle of a collapsing relationship, and consoling the grieving wife Marion in time honoured tradition. Beautifully written, complex and highly watchable this highly acclaimed film shouldn't be missed.
