Having struck his first blow against the criminals of Gotham, Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman, (Christian Bale) finds the situation has escalated, as the psychotic Joker (Heath Ledger) unleashes his own brand of chaotic crime on the city streets. Looking forward to the day when he will no longer have to patrol Gotham, Wayne supports the rise of crusading District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), although the Joker has other plans for the city's 'White Knight'.

A modern masterpiece that brings true depth and sophistication to the comic book genre, Christopher Nolan's film is a remarkable mix of jaw-dropping action and psychological drama. With a searing performance from the late Heath Ledger, as well as great support from Eckhart and the exceptional cast, The Dark Knight is not only a milestone for comic book movies, but one of the finest films of 2008.
