Conceived before his multi award-winning thriller and yet only given the green light in the aftermath of its success, The Cottage is an offbeat mix of jokes and gore - like Severance, only better. For the first half of the film, Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith steal the show as bungling kidnappers in what appears to be a witty, if unoriginal, British crime caper. But Williams then takes an unpredictable left turn into the realm of horror and suddenly viewers are watching something totally different. A nifty comedy-horror from an up-and-coming writer/director.
