A down-at-heel former boxing champion finds his relationship with his young son threatened by the arrival of his ex-wife, now remarried and with a successful career. Desperate to provide his son with the life his mother is able to offer, he decides to resume his fighting career and, in an emotionally-charged climax, he enters the ring for his comeback fight. Wallace Beery won an Oscar for his portrayal as the broken down boxer.
