The Break-Up (2006)
Written by Jeremy Garelick, Jay LavenderDirected by Peyton ReedRunning Time: 103 minutes (approx)Production Year: 2006Rating: 12 CertificateProduction Country: USAFilmed in ColourReleased in 2006, this so-so rom-com starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, picked up a lot of press coverage well before it came out. Hardly surprising, considering that the film was about a couple breaking up and it was released shortly after Jennifer Aniston's real-life break-up with husband Brad Pitt. Not only that, but while making the film, Aniston found solace in the arms of the film's co-star Vaughn, who she dated for a while. So what have we got? Brooke (Aniston) and Gary (Vaughn) are complete opposites, but this doesn't stop them falling in love and buying a Chicago condo together. It all seems like a pretty picture, until the day Gary doesn't buy enough lemons for their dinner party. A petty argument escalates into a full-scale break-up and, when neither of them gives up their apartment, it becomes a war of attrition. In the red corner, Gary parties in the living room with hookers and his pals; in the blue corner, Brooke dates a string of gorgeous men and parades around naked. There's great chemistry between the two leads, even when firing barbed comments and acid insults at each other. When is The Break-Up next on TV?
