After the success of Going My Way, Bing Crosby returned as Father Chuck O'Malley in Leo McCarey's nine-Oscar-nominated drama. This time he's sent to St Mary's Academy, an inner-city school run by the glacial Sister Mary Benedict. The school is under threat from the freeholder, who wants to tear it down for a car park but O'Malley convinces him of the error of his ways.
